Poland’s large and rapidly expanding digital economy creates significant opportunities for Green Software Engineering. The country is making steady progress in digital public services and is placing increasing policy emphasis on strategic areas such as artificial intelligence infrastructure, semiconductors, and quantum technologies. However, business digitalisation and the adoption of advanced technologies remain uneven, particularly among SMEs, while the pool of ICT specialists has shown limited growth. GREENByte research found strong student interest in energy-efficient programming, resource optimisation, sustainable software architecture, and environmentally responsible software development. Academics highlighted the need for practical teaching materials, laboratory activities, and real-world examples that can be incorporated into existing computer science and software engineering programmes. Industry recognises the importance of energy-efficient software but has not yet widely integrated sustainability considerations throughout the complete software lifecycle. GREENByte aims to transform this growing awareness into practical skills, stronger university–industry cooperation, and innovation that supports Poland’s digital and green transition.
